Nsw prisons over stretched report into violent video game and gaming addiction, and the report suggests that gaming does not promote addiction, just depression.
Dr. Marc Goldacre, executive director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) in the United States, says that "it may surprise some people to learn that gaming-related harms are minimal — although no less concerning are adverse social outcomes."
The NCHS data on games, and how they influence mental health has been extremely difficult to come by since its inception. But Goldacre, speaking at a conference on the topic of video game addiction on 23 November 2014, suggested that the recent spate of research into the influence of violent video games is more evidence that gaming does not promote addiction.
'Ego depletion'
"While there is a certain amount of research showing a link between a high-energy type of game and certain kinds of harm, as much as we know about video games now, it's still a bit of a mystery what those effects are," he said. "We know that more than 1.4 million kids were screened for violent video game use in 2011.
"But this kind of information is always coming up with a lot of methodological issues and so the data hasn't kept pace with how much attention to these issues there is."
Goldacre said that the NCHS does a more comprehensive survey on the number of incarcerated young people who play violent video games, as opposed to a wider survey, looking specifically at substance use and health issues like mental health problems like depression and substance abuse.
He described this as a "great opportunity to get some of those numbers from different sources, so we can really explore if gaming is associated with a lot of these outcomes."
But according to Dr. Sarah Roper, the NCHS researcher who led the survey, that wasn't easy.

"The game industry is an industry, as the industry itself would say, full of people who get into gaming in the first place," she said. "So there's really a strong cultural connection, a lot of people love video games. So we're really only asking people if they think there's a strong connection between playing violent video games, which is a large subset of the population, and some of the negative social outcomes that come with that."
Roper used to work in health policy and advocacy in Washington, DC, and was concerned about data sharing.
"We've heard all these studies and reports that talk about video game addiction or, quote, 'addiction to violent games,'" she said. "And if that's something that has been proven wit

Wind farm planned near mt gambier, and is now almost completed. The plan was to begin operating in January of 2014, but it was forced to be suspended for financial reasons.
The government of Yukon has announced that it will no longer consider the planned development of an iron ore mine at an area of the reserve known as the Mountain Lake. The proposal was made by a private company to explore for iron ore on a vast area of land, called the High Lakes Area. The site was originally located on the upper reaches of Mount Gambier.
The land has been developed using federal tax credits but is expected to become an untapped resource once production at Mt Gambier and several additional sites in the area begin.
The government of Yukon stated that a meeting had been held in June with the members of the Yukon Mining and Mineral Corporation (UMRC), representing the interests of the local people and the local mining businesses. The decision was made that the project must be resubmitted with certain adjustments. The issue of resource prices for metals and minerals will continue to be considered by the decision making body.
An interview with former Yukon MP, Mike Russell, was published in The Okanagan Daily, as part of the coverage for a meeting with the head of the project. An additional piece written by Ron Chumow is now available online and is posted to the blog at http://rchumow.blogspot.com/2014/03/meta llurgic-mineral-industry-in-yukon-s-high -la.html

Probe continues into fatal police shooting of unarmed black teenager Laquan McDonald https://t.co/dRgwCv7dQK pic.twitter.com/qbIaMhN3cK — FOX 32 Edmonton (@FOX32Edmonton) June 23, 2015
The case has been brought up again now that the evidence against Officer Darren Wilson has been publicly released. He has been charged with second degree murder for shooting 18-year-old Laquan McDonald.
The video of the shooting has sparked massive outrage. The video shows a white officer in plainclothes running towards a 17-year-old black teen.
But it does not reveal his badge number. It does not reveal when he shot the teen. It does not reveal his name.
It reveals little else. It shows his officer friend walking behind the teen, holding out a baton.
The officer in charge of the video had told police that his friend, Michael Tazer, tried to use a Taser on the teen, who turned out to be 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
However, it does not appear that any of this is on Michael Tazer's mind.
It is now very likely that the officer who opened fire with his shotgun was not actually aware of the fact that he was firing his weapon at a 17-year-old black teenager. This was his intention in using force.
As his friend, Michael Tazer may not have intended to kill McDonald.
He may have simply thought it would be best if he killed him, and then himself, because a 17-year-old black teen was walking up behind him and holding a baseball bat in his hand. This is where Officer Wilson was wrong.
Officers need to be vigilant in using the most powerful weapons possible in their interactions with black people.
This officer in Ferguson should be given the same respect as any other police officer. He should be treated no differently than any other police officer.
But the shooting of Laquan McDonald by Darren Wilson is not the fault of another black officer who had the audacity to use deadly force against a 17-year-old black teen.
It was the fault of Officer Wilson himself.
It was the fault of a police officer who failed to listen to a police dispatcher who told him his friend was armed and dangerous when the only person he was firing his gun at was a 17-year-old black teenager.
It is the fault of an already struggling system that fails in its duties to protect the black community from the threat of police violence.

Feed warning for sheep producers. All farm animals should be vaccinated against a number of diseases before they enter the market. See our article Vaccine safety before sheep are sold here. Some vaccines work in sheep and some don't.

What is FUWA or Feeding with Aspiration?
FUWA stands for Furry Aspiration in Feed. Essentially, feeding with Aspiration is a practice where you fill with live prey with high-fat, high-protein products designed to enhance the appearance of furs.
For more information on FUWA, see our video:
Furry Aspiration - a video about what it is, why it works, and what you need to consider before deciding to purchase or make your own furs
How long does it take to create fur?
The cost can be up to 30 to 40 times as much as using feed with Aspiration alone. The longer it takes to raise fur, the more expensive it becomes and the more animal welfare problems it can cause.
It is possible to make fur before you reach 30 days of age, and it can be done faster with a high percentage of your time dedicated to furs.
You can help raise fur by helping a furs breeder or someone interested in helping the animals. There are many good charities you can help or join. For more information see our page on how to be involved with charity.
Furs for the animals
If you sell, rent or buy fur for humans, animal or human-related uses, your furs have to go through a process that makes them ethical and safe for animals.
Some fur is bought at auction from fur brokers. Some furs are sold by online retailers and then processed and packaged in Australia. Many fur sold by dealers may be sourced.
Furs sold by dealers for fur use must be approved by a veterinarian before they are released into the wild. To ensure that the fur is safe, it should be dried well, be weighed and, where appropriate, be kept in sealed enclosures. It is also important that all the fur sold by dealers in Australia meet the current standards for medical waste d |
